Decalogue

Oct. 2022 - Dec. 2022

In the first trimester of my MA, to begin thinking about images that work in a series or sequence, this module we were given a set brief - the decalogue. The brief was to design a series of book covers themed around sins using objects that fit within one family.

Outcome

The outcome included two sets of images, as I was undecided on which was most effective. One set used bookbinding equipment and bright neon colours while the other used thread sewn into the page.

Process

My starting point was photographing my ideas, bookbinding equipment, cutlery and shoes. I liked the idea of playing with shadow to show deception which was effective with the scissors. I also experimented with sewing threads and drawing lines and shapes.

I developed both the bookbinding equipment idea and the threads. I liked the bright colours for the stationary, adding a sickly feeling to the images, but the thread was more interesting in terms of texture and originality. I ended the project undecided on which was most effective.
